I’ll make it short and sweet this month. I want you to get some courage. So, I’m busy prepping for our upcoming Writers' Fire-Up & How-To Workshop on Friday, August 23, which I’m really excited about. I love the idea of getting to know my fellow writers in person (OK, virtually on zoom, but these days zoom feels totally real and personal to me), sharing what we’re working on and what struggles we’re having, and then diving into this month’s listings of submission opportunities to identify which opps are the best matches for which writers. I also look forward to sharing the where-and-how of making your submission in a professional manner—especially, how to be honest about your writing so you can take in feedback, edit, and finally be sure it’s the best it can be, and how to gather up the courage to then start sending it out. I especially love the commitment we’ll make, together, at the end of our meeting—to identify and refine the story, essay, or memoir piece that we’re going to submit to at least one journal this month, and to report back to the group with a “Yesss!” when we’ve actually done it.
Seriously, there’s nothing like the power of a promise you make to others. A promise has power. I hope you’ll be with us on August 23, firing up yours.

So, on to the offerings in this month’s edition of Get Yourself Published.
I’ve found 42 high-level submission opportunities from print publications this month. All of them are open to all writers of prose.
My “Best Of” Article delivers a boatload of information about writer’s residencies available in Europe and other places around the world. There are quite a few well-funded residencies, so why not apply? Heck, if a residency not only provides you time and space to write and, with luck, meet and share work with fellow writers, awesome—and if it also gets you to Europe, where perhaps you can tack on a week’s vacation in a foreign country, how great would that be?
This month’s Find is a meaty guide to better writing, by an editor for a renowned writer’s resource and book series. He oughtta know, right? The advice you’ll receive in his very thorough book just might re-ground your skills and get you out of the rut you might be rolling in. Consider buying it and soaking in everything he has to share with you.
