"Emergency" Submission Opportunity Notice
Here's a rare opportunity to submit your story to one of the most prestigious literary journals - it opens tomorrow!
This is a crazy-urgent special notice of a high-level submission opportunity that is going to come and go in a flash. I knew it was opening sometime this spring; I’ve been checking for it every week for a few months. And now it’s here, and it’s opening tomorrow.
The window to submit is determined by how many submissions they’ll take, which is capped at 2,000. If that sounds like a lot, it is. If it sounds like you’ve got a lot of time, you don’t. I missed an opportunity last year to submit an the first 5,000 words of my novel to a publisher that was taking direct submissions starting at 12:01 am on a certain date, and would accept up to a cap of 200 submissions. This was for those who’ve completed a full novel, folks; I mean, that limits the field of contenders considerably, doesn’t it?
I submitted my novel on the opening date at 7:12 am—and was met with a very unpleasant screen that said, “Sorry, the submissions cap has been reached.”
The moral of the story is: You’ve gotta get in and get in quick. Hence, this special email with this one single opportunity. I’ll still be sending out my regular monthly listings on the 11th, but this one opportunity has to get to you now.
So, here it is. If you’ve got a short story ready to send out, sit down and give it a final polish today, and then submit it first thing tomorrow.
